When the tourist liner Franconia called at Zanzibar in February last after a world cruise, which took in New Zealand, Australia and the East, her passengers'were received at the palace by Sultan Seyyld Khalifa Bin Ilarnb El Busaidl. His Highness, who is fond of music, gave a special audience to Cole Porter, the New York song and revue composer, and his party. During the reception the Sultan’s band played many selections of native music, one of which formed tlie basis of John Philip Sousa’s "Wang” hit which was called by Sousa “Tlie Typical Tune of Zanzibar.” Prince Abdulla, who knows his Paris and London, assisted the Sultan in the entertainment of his guests.
