RUGBY ACCIDENTS
Question of Publicity The management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union recently wrote to the Wellington Free Ambulance requesting that cases of injured Rugby players dealt with by the Free Ambulance should not be supplied to the Press. A reply was received at lastnight’s meeting of the management committee of the union from the secretary of the Free Ambulance, in which he stated that he had been advised by his board that, in view of the fact that the Press was able to get particulars of accidents on the football fields without referring to the Free Ambulance, it was felt that no good purpose could be served by acceding to the union’s request that the Press should not he supplied with details of Rugby accidents. The chairman, Mr. J. Prendeville, said he still held that undue publicity was given by the Press to accidents, many of which were trivial, on the football fields. The letter was received.
