Ahipara Bay tills morning and is likely to become a total loss. The crew, comprising J. W. Wray the captain, and 1). Wellington left the ketch safely. The Mlhongi left Hokianga ballasted with sand on Sunday afternoon and bad trouble in clearing the bar. Cape Maria van Diemen was reached last evening, but it was found impossible to get tlie craft round, and she was forced out to sea by the weather. The wind increased jin violence and the Mihohgi moved up and down off Ninety Mile Beach all night The crew were kept busy bailing and had a perilous and distressing time.
At daybreak the vessel was outside Reef Point and ran for the most sheltered place in Aliipara Bay. Waves were breaking right over the Mlhongi here as she moved toward the beach broadside on, and came ashore opposite Miss Reed’s accommodation house. The crew were provided with refreshments and dry clothing by Miss Reed, and despite their trying experience suffered no physical barm and were quite cheerful. ■
