FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.
Improving, generally fine. Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Oflice, Wellington, for the 24 -hours ending' 4 p.m. to-day:— An anti-cvclone is advancing across the Tasman Sea, its centre being to the north, and pressure is rising ’over the New Zealand area. A fresh depression is developing over south-eastern Australia. Winds south-west to south-east, moderate to strong. g^lua By decreasing. 1 timing northerly later in the southern half ol the South Island. Seas rough at first north of Farewell Spit and south of East Cape, but moderating; elsewhere in'New Zeiilimd waters smooth to modeiate. Moderate south-west to westerly winds in the eastern Tasman Sen, turning northerh in. the central and southern portions and increasing. Seas moderate, but rising later in the south. . A few scattered showers at first on the east coast and in the far north, but improving and elsewhere fine. Temperatures cold, with some frosts. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER. Wellington—A cold southerly breeze prevailed and the weather was changeable. Dur iw the morning it was mostly dull, but in the afternoon there were periods of sunshine although a light passing shower occurred at 4 p.m. Ml—temnerature on Wednesday night, 44.3 deg.; maximum yesterday, 48.4 deg., at Rainfa’ll at “The Dominion” building for 24 hours to midnight, nil. Rainfall for June, ,865 in. for year, 1G.365in, Palmerston North.— Following heavy showers in the early morning, the sun broke through toward midday and pleasant conditions thereafter prevailed. Masterton.— Dull and cloudy, with occasional light rain showers; cold temperature; light northerly breeze. Wanganui.— Fine but cloudy, with frequent periods of sunshine. Ibere was a chilly breeze. ~ . • T( - Waipukurau.—A dull, overcast day with occasional sunshine in the morning. It turned very cold late in the afternoon, Auckland.— Fino, although cold; it was only the third day this month on which no rain has fallen. The barometer rose throughout the day, but was still below normal last evening. There was a south-westerly breeze. Christchurch— Fine and clear with a moderate south-west wind. The sky became overcast in the evening. The maximum temperature yas 4<.Bdeg. The barometer was rising steadily and stood at JO.Omil. Dunedin— Cold and unsettled, the sky being overcast all day and rain threatening. temperature at 8 a.m. was 39deg., and the maximum for the day was 44deg. A light south-west breeze was blowing.
