AN R.S.A. DIARY
District Notes and News Brooklyn, Kilbirnie and Lyall Bay (Contributed.) Since the establishment of headquarters in Bay Road for the Kilbirnie, Lyall Bay and Melrose auxiliary committee the returned soldier movement in the district has grown apace. Over the past month nine new members have been enrolled and thirteen renewals received. The social room is open daily, and in the evenings, and was fitted up recently with a heating system. The card aud social evenings on Tuesdays continue to be well attended, and the ladies’ committee have been of considerable help in serving enjoyable suppers. The recent bazaar proved successful beyond the expectations of the committee, and again their thanks are due to the women who so whole-heartedly supported the committee’s activities. Subsidised work during the month totalled 25 days. Work at Brooklyn. The Brooklyn auxiliary has been exceptionally fortunate in many ways, but in nothing has it been more fortunate than in the personnel of its ladies' committee. The clubroom is becoming more and more popular with the returned men as a place of rendezvous and recreation, and the weekly socials appear to have become a feature of the social life of the district. The supply of work offering for unemployed ex-servieemen is well maintained in spite of the winter, and as a result the calls for direct material assistance have shown, if anything, a slight fating off.
