Christchurch Tournament By 'Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, June 20. The New Zealand University hockey tournament opened to-day. The weatner was fine, but the grounds were heavy after raiu. Six teams have entered ( for the competition—Auckland, Otago, Victoria, Massey, and Canterbury A and B. The tournament is decided by the elimination process, losing teams dropping out but playing each other during the progress of the other games. In the first series of matches Canterbury A 7. beat Massey College 2. and Otago 6, beat Canterbury 80. Auckland pud Victoria College had byes in the first round, but played a friendly game, which Victoria won by 2 goals to 1. In the afternoon, Canterbury A 4, beat Victoria 2, and Otago 2, beat Auckland 0. In a friendly match Massey 4, beat Canterbury B 0. Four teams have been entered In the women’s series, Auckland, Victoria, Canterbury and Otago. In this series every team will meet every other team. To-day Victoria 8. beat Auckland 0, and Canterbury 2, beat Otago 0. « TEAM TO VISIT FIJI By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, June 20. At a meeting this evening the New Zealand University Hockey Council accepted an invitation for a Dominion university side to visit Suva. The team will leave Auckland on August 20. and return on September 6. Three Test matches will be played, and possibly two others. The team will be selected by Mr F. H. Stewart (Victoria College) and Mr. H. C. Ford (Canterbury). Nominations for the team will close on July 15, and the team will be selected about a week later.
