WORK COMMENCED

New Commercial Bank Headquarters

A deafening clatter of pneumatic picks biting into staunch brickwork on Lambton Quay yesterday morning told its own story. Work had been commenced on the new headquarters in New Zealand of the Commercial Bank of Australia, on the section adjoining the new Prudential block. The task in hand was the destruction' of the strong-room walls of the old bank, rooms erected originally for the long since defunct Colonial Bank. The new bank, a steel-frame and concrete structure, will be eight stories in height, and will be the tallest bank building in New - Zealand. TII9 Fletcher Construction Company are the contractors.
