Decline in Export Values

The general index number ot’ export prices fell from 1090 in March to 1041 in April (on the base: average export prices ruling during 1909, 13 equals 1000), reports the Government Statistician. The index number for the dairy produce group fell from 871 in the former month to 776 in the latter month, reflecting the drop in Loudon prices of dairy produce which occurred iu April. The index number of retail prices of food on April 15 was 5 points higher than in March. Prices in the groceries and meat groups were practically unchanged. The index number for the dairy products group rose by IS points —mainly clue to higher prices of eggs, a normal occurrence during the Lenten season.

The general wholesale prices index number for April rose by 2 points, as compared with the figure for the preceding month. The index number of share prices rose from 1006 at the end of March to 1036 on the last trading day in April. This was the highest point reached since November, 1929.
