GISBORNE HIGHWAYS

District Council Meeting Gisborue, June 10. The. Gisborne aud Coast Counties, which make up the No. 4 Main Highways District, have between them 366 miles of highways. Formed roads in the same area have a total length of 1251 miles, aud the percentage ot’ highways to formed roads is 29, This is slightly above the average for New Zealand, which stands at .27 per cent. These figures, contained in the 1933 Local Bodies' Handbook, were placed before the recent annual meeting of the No. 4 Disrlct Stain Highways Council, when applications from the five, counties • for 70 additional miles of highways were discussed, Eventually it was decided to recommend about 34 miles for declaration.
