DEATH-ROLL OVER 40,000
Quetta Earthquake’s Range

Calcutta, June 8
A Government statement saysi that a survey of the ruined villages in the Quetta area is incomplete, but at present the estimate is 12,000 to 15,000 killed. The total death-roll, including Quetta, is probably over 40,000. In one village there were only nine survivors out of a population of 400. The earthquake shocks continue. Official messages state that the range of the Quetta earthquake is estimated as having been 130 miles long and 20 miles broad, says a British official wireless message. The number of destitute refugees Is estimated at not less than 15,000. Supplies of food and medical comforts at Quetta are now adequate. The evacuation of British and Indian ' survivors continues with all possible ‘speed.

The British Government will vote £50,000 to the Quetta relief fund when the House reassembles. Gifts to the Lord Mayor’s fund include: The King. £500; the Queen, £250; Prince of Wales. £125; the Duke and'Duchess of York and the Duke and Duchess of Kent. £5O each. Simla, June 8. The Government has granted £75.000 to the Quetta relief fund.

The Actinb Primo Minister, Dr. Earle Page, has announced that the Federal Government has offered £lO,OOO as tl gift to the Government of India for the relief of those who suffered in the Quetta earthquake.
