POLITICIANS QUARREL

Hungarian Premier Challenged to Duel

Budapest, June 7.

The Premier, General Gombos, was challenged last week to duel by an Opposition deputy, Dr. Eckhardt, following upon an alleged revelation that General Gombos provided information which was the subject of a previous quarrel between Dr. Eckhardt and Count Bethlen.

Subsequently General Gombos and Dr. Eckhardt settled their quarrel without a duel, but this only precipitated another duel, and threatens to produce a third. , Dr. Eckhardt and a Government deputy, M. Szalay, to-day fought with light cavalry sabres. Each was wounded ten times when they desisted from sheer exhaustion.

General Gombos earlier appeased Dr. Eckhardt by saying that M. Bethlen had misquoted him. M. Bethlen has now sent his seconds to General Gombos. EXPLANATION ACCEPTED (Received June 9, 6.30 p.m.) London, June S. The Budapest correspondent of “The Daily Mail” says that General Gombos, contrary to expectations, admitted a misunderstanding with Dr. Eckhardt, and M. Bethlen accepted the explanation, thus obviating a duel.
