The Hard of Hearing

Sir, —Mrs. G. A. Hurd-Wood’s statement that the Wellington branch of the Hard of Hearing League “had not functioned as it should,” is quite true. All they have done, so far, is to ask the deaf for one guinea to start with, though the secretary knows some of them are unemployed and hard up. Personally, I would have no objection to giving more, if I could earn it, but cannot even get casual work. The deaf deserve all the help they can get; so far, it looks as if that will be nothing. The Government might give those over 60 the old age pension, as they have plenty to waste when it suits them. —I am, etc., DEAF 30 YEARS. Wellington, May 30.
