DEATH SENTENCE
Petition For Commutation By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hastings, June 1. A petition for commutation of the sentence of death on Charles William Price for the murder of Evelyn Mary Madden Is being forwarded to the Executive Council by Messrs.. W. S. Averill and T. E. O’Dowd, of Hastings, counsel for the defence. Mr. Averill said that the whole question of appeal had been very carefully considered, and both he and Mr. O'Dowd agreed that Price had been given an eminently fair trial. There could be no question of misdirection of the jury by the presiding judge.
