HOPMAN DEFEATED
Young Italian’s Victory (Received April 19. 11.5 p.m.) Rome, April IS. At the Italian tennis championships Canepele, a young Italian, defeated II Hopman. Australia. 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.. 3-6, 6-3. The Australian Davis Cup players, who practised for the first time to-day, play at Monte Carlo on April 26 and 30, but only in the doubles and mixed doubles. They will then proceed direct to Eastbourne for the Davis Cup tie against New Zealand. MALFROY IN SEMI-FINALS (Received April 19. 6.30 p.m.) London, April IS. At the Melbnry tennis tournament in the quarter finals Malfroy defeated Nigel Sharpe 6-2, 64. Miss Round defeated Mrs. Whittingsail 6-1. 6-4.
