SPORTING BLOOD
Sound Effort on Ellerslie Track SOME FAST SPRINTING Dominion Special Service Auckland, April 19. Some fast sprinting was accomplished at Ellerslie to-day when the No. 2 grass was available for galloping, and provided excellent going. Nothing went better than Sporting Blood, who reeled off six furlongs in 1.5. Others to record smart efforts were Mother Superior, King Mestor, Diatomous. Rulanut. Tradesman, King Rey and Mungatdon. On the grass Impasto went a round in 1.4 4-5, the last half-mile in 53 3-5. He was on the bit throughout, and did his work well. Impasto has completed his preparation for the Easter Handicap splendidly, and is in great heart. If he runs up to his latest track work he should be prominent at the finish. Mother Superior (Wiggins) sprinted . four furlongs in 50, going fairly wide round the turn and finishing strongly. She has worked pleasingly since reaching Ellerslie, and appears to he in good form at present. Galilee was going very comfortably while running four furlongs with United in 51 1-5. She has made good progress since racing at Paeroa last month, and should be capable of a solid performance 1 in the Great Northern Champagne , Stakes. I Diatomous, with a fair weight in the i saddle, covered six furlongs in 1.10 2-5, be. ■ ing under restraint over the first couple • of furlongs, and running the last four in ! 49 4-5. He is splendidly conditioned and I his work since arrival has been good. His latest gallops indicate that he is staying on a little better than formerly. Knight of Australia worked usefully over a round, covering the last six furlongs in 1.25 1-5. He looks a trifle more robust than usual. Mononui encompassed a round in 1.44 4-5, the last four furlongs in 53 2-5, She is in capital trim after her recent racing. Rulanut (Wiggins) sprinted half a mile in 49 4-5. and was travelling strongly at the finish. He pulled up sound, and now appears certain to reach the post for the Easier Handicap. So far no rider has been engaged for him, but he may be ridden either by C. Browne or E. Manson. Sporting Blood .(Marsh), after going
