Athletic Council Criticised By Telegraph.—Press Association. Clii'islcliureli, April 17. “Our confidence in the members of the New Zealand council is further shaken by their remarkable action in passing through tlie performance as a New Zealand record, and I think the writing is on tlie wall for them,” said Mr. J. K. Moloney, president of the Canterbury athletic centre, at a meeting to-night. Mr. Moloney’s remarks were made in support of a protest against the crediting of a New Zealand record to W. S. Bainbridge, Auckland, for liis run in the 220 yards at tbe New Zealand championship at Wanganui. Bainbridge was credited with 21 3-ssee„ In which be won narrowly, and it was alleged by members of the centre that Bainbridge undoubtedly beat the gun. They alleged that the oflicials were wrong in allowing cei» tificates for this time to go forward and contended that New Zealand re cords as the foundation of the sport must be jealously guarded.
A motion was carried unanimously that the centre should write to the New Zealand council protesting strongly against the passing of the performance us a record, and asking that steps be taken to rescind file council’s motion of recognition.
