MAINTENANCE OF TREES
Masterton Beautifying Society Mastcrton. April 11. i Considerable concern is being caused tq members of the Masterton Beautifying Society by the problem of maintaining the ten miles of street trees planted by the society in Masterton. It was suggested at a meeting of the society last night that the time had come when the pruning of the trees be handed over to the care of the borough council. It was also suggested that the park custodian might prune a few trees in each street as models and let the work by contract. This suggestion, however, met with some disagreement, one member saying that the pruning should still be carried out by the society, and that. the grant of £lOO from the council should be utilised in this and other maintenance, work. Several members were of the opinion that the trees would be better cared for by the society, which had been interested in the trees from the commencement of Ihe scheme. After further discussion on the matter, it was decided to defer consideration until after the forthcoming local body elections, when they would confer with the new council and see if an arrangement could be made which would satisfy both bodies.
