WELLINGTON AIRPORT
Claims of Porirua Harbour Tlie opinion that Porirua Harbour was an ideal place for an airport for Wellington was expressed by many wiio spoke at a meeting of the Tawa Flat Progressive Association. Members asked why the Wellington City Council was persistently spending sums of money on Rougotai when in the opinion of many, it would never be really satisfactory, and why tlie Government had not taken up civil aviation with a little more vigour and led the way, instead of leaving everything to tlie aero clubs. Porirua Harbour, it was stated, was an ideal place for an airport. There was a fine stretch of water for seaplanes and plenty of flat land for landing grounds aud scope for reclamation work. There was no finer place around Wellington for an airport than Porirua Harbour. Large aeroplanes could land their passengers there, and in twenty minutes or even less the passengers, would arrive by the fast electric trains at the new Bunny Street station in Wellington. rhe' association’s members are collecting all tlie information they can on the subject so that in time their hopes of an airport being established at Porirua may lie 'realised. It was decided that representatives of all districts in close proximity to tlie Tawa Flat deviation and tlie other part of tlie railway that is to lie electrified, be asked to attend the association's annual meeting on May 27.
