TROUBLE IN RELIEF CAMP
Men Declare a Strike NO FIREWOOD DELIVERED AT TENTS By Telegraph.—Press Association. Te Kuiti, April 10. For some time there has been trouble with single men in a small farm camp at Pururu, eight miles east of Te Kuiti. A climax was reached at midday Wednesday when the camp was closed down and 120 men' were discharged. The men demanded that firewood be cut and placed near their tents; they also complained of tlie food. Four men were discharged for creating trouble, and at a stop-work meeting on Wednesday morning a secret ballot was taken, and it was decided to strike until the discharged men had been reinstated. This was refused by the Public Works officials, and, acting upon instructions from the head office at Wellington, the camp was closed down. In the meantime married men are still carrying on. Most of the strikers come from Wellington.
