Facilities in Australia PLANES ON MAIL ROUTE Canberra, April 10. ’ The Federal Minister of Defence, Mr. 11. A. Parkhill, said that additional night-lighting facilities had been completed to permit the night flying that was necessary on the main route from .Darwin to Cootamundra to ensure adherence to the present air-mail timetable during the winter months. Night landing facilities had been provided at Darwin, Cloncurry, Longreach and Cootamundra, and four revolving beacons had been installed along the route between Cloncurry and Longreach. , ANOTHER AIR RACE South Australian Plan (British Official Wireless.) (Received April 10, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, April 9. Mr. R. L. Butler, Premier of South Australia, who is at present in England, states that plans under consideration to commemorate the South Australian centenary next year include a suggestion for another air race from England to Australia. It is proposed that the aeroplanes fly to Adelaide aud that all carry passengers. FIRST PAYING PASSENGERS Mail Plane From Australia (Received April 10, 8.40 p.m.) Sydney, April 10. Lady Mountbatten aud her secretary, Major Phillips, will leave Brisbane next Tuesday as the first paying passengers by an Empire Airways aeroplane for Singapore en route for Jlalta by air. MISS BATTEN’S PROGRESS Brisbane, April' 10. Miss Jean Batten, who is flying to London, spent the second night of her journey at Winton in Central Queensland, the first night having been spent at Bourke.
