15¼-POUND TROUT
* Woman Angler’s Luck SPORT AT TOKAANU Dominion Special Service. Tokaanu, April 10. Fishing yesterday at Asher’s Delta camp at the mouth of the Tongariro River, Mrs. F. Whittaker, a prominent woman angler from Auckland, had the great fortune to land the largest rainbow trout caught on the fly this season. The exact weight was 15Hb., and it took 23 minutes to land on the killer fly after an exciting display. Arrangements have been made by Mrs. Whittaker to have the specimen mounted. The sport covering the last month, both in the Tongariro River and around the Delta camp mouths, has been the best for some season, due a good deal to the recent rains. Almost every visiting angler has had excellent fishing, resulting in many overseas visitors extending their stay here. Should these conditions continue a record Easter period will be the outcome. The deer-stalking conditions have also been excellent, many tine heads being secured of both red and Japanese deer.
The prospects for the duck shooting should be good, game being extremely plentiful, due a good deal to the most favourable conditions existing during the summer.
