MANY NEW MEMBERS
Manawatu Show Association PRESIDENT’S REVIEW Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, April 10. “During the first years of the depression our membership dropped very rapidly, but I am safe in saying that this decline has now been arrested,” stated the president. Mr. D. Collis, at the annual meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and I’. Association this afternoon. “Many new members have been en rolled, our secretary having attended stock sales and other shows,” said Mr. Collis. “With the co-operation of our committee the objective should be 2000 members, which would mean an annual income of £2OOO from members’ subscriptions. “I think I am correct in saying that during the year our prestige has been increased considerably, and a better goodwill and a brighter spirit now exists. I regret that we cannot show a better balance for the year just closed for the following reasons: The reduction in gate charges, life membership fees now going to a different account. the annuity paid to the late secretary. the loss of £l5O in revenue from the Defence Department, and several other reasons. “No doubt both the winter and spring shows were very good, record entries being received. Our is. and should be. one of the best in the Dominion. During my term as president I have endeavoured to increase both our membership and prestige, and by attending outside shows I have had a good opportunity to attain that end My term of office, although a busy one lias been a happy one. and I desire you all to show the same courteous con sideration and help to my successor. Mr. Jos. Batcbelar.”
