PILLAR OF CONCRETE
Beauty and Solidarity Beauty and solidarity are the two dominant impressions to he gained from the new Prudential Assurance Company building in Lambton Quay. These two essences of modern construction have been most admirably blended in the new building. They are bath supplied by one product—concrete. This is ■perhaps a concrete age in which wo live. Had this substance uot been discovered 'it would be difficult to imagine the effect of its absence from our daily lives. There would be some essential factor gone. Underneath the beauty of the exterior is the ordinary grey concrete, its great strength carrying the big structure and providing, as far as it is humanly possible, to ensure for every safeguard against earthquake damage. Hundreds of tons of the well-known Golden Bay Portland cement, manufactured by the Wellington company of that name, were used in the construction jyprk. No better advertisement is possible than its great strength and setting qualities, which were amply demonstrated in the speed shown in the construction of this building.
