“CRICKET HINTS”
Ah-Invaluable Handbook “The New Zealand Referee” has just . issued a most valuable illustrated booklet ; <xf some 40 pages, entitled “Cricket Hints,” in which those renowned Australian players, D. G. Bradman, W. A. Oldfield, A. A. Mailey, and A. G, Moyes give much practical advice to players. Don Bradman gives aspiring cricketers .sound advice not only on how to make : the various strokes, but on how to dress j properly. In a series of illustrations the world’s greatest batsman shows the correct stance, grip, and action for almost every stroke in the game. Arthur Mailey descants learnedly on bowling, and illustrates the grips for the ' out-swinger, the in-swinger, leg and off breaks, and the “bosey.” The famous Australian slpw bowler incidentally gives much valuable advice upon how to place the field for the various types of bowling. The world's best wicketkeeper. W. A. Oldfield, gives budding stumpers sound advice upon the selection and preparation of gloves, and then proceeds to demonstrate how to use them. Every phase of the stumping game is explained and illustrated, even to closely watching the bowler’s fingers, and endeavouring to anticipate the break. A. G. Moyes learnedly discourses on the care of the feet, how to dress, how to place the field, how to conserve energy, and, best of all, how to use one’s brains when on the field. The “New Zealand Referee’s Cricket Hints” are a valuable contribution to cricket literature, and should not only prove invaluable to aspiring players, but should be a goldmine to sports masters of schools, who are doing their best to bring their boys along on correct cricket lines.
