RIFLE SHOOTING

Petone Club’s Competition

The Petone Rifle Club fired a further competition for the club championships. Flaws Cup mid other handicap series competitions at Trentham on Saturday, the range for the day being BSO yards. There was a fair attendance of members, and, with Trentihani in one of its “tricky moods,” a very interesting day’s shooting was held. A moderate south-east wind was blowing, and this required elose attention, and frequently as mucu as seven degrees of windage alteration was required between shots. It is many years since riflemen have had to contend with so many “front” winds in the season, and on Saturday it was certainly a case of correct judgment and quick firing to “keep in step” with the quick changes of wind. Some good range scores were recorded, and, in particular, that of C..E. Tanner, who was unlucky not to score the “possible” in his second shoot. His last shot was an “inner,” leaving the marksman with 49 out of the possible 50. J. C. Carter, with a “bird” for sixth shot, finished with 48, and 0, Pedersen had a “six bull” finish to return 47. R. H. Nicholl was caught for an “outer” with his last shot to score 46. and D. J. Guiney had an “outer” in his 46. C. E. Tanner, with 94 off tbe gun, was topscorer for the day. and this junior shot is to be congratulated on his day’s performance. 0. Pedersen and D. J. Guiney were next with 91, J. C. Carter 90. T. Warburton SS. With only one range to be fired (next Saturday at 300 yards), the ehampionships have reached a very interesting stage, the leaders in the various grades being:—A Grade: 0.
