CROQUET TOURNEY
Only Two Unfinished Events TROPHIES PRESENTED With the exception of two events the Wellington croquet tournament is now complete. These two events, the lady associate championship and the club pairs, will be finished to-day. The trophies were presented on Saturday afternoon by Mrs. W. S. Austin, president of the association. She remarked that the tournament had now reached a very interesting phase—that of passing on the trophies to the successful competitors. All would agree that the pleasure and experience gained had been well worth while. She thanked the management and all who had assisted in any way in running the tournament, especially the Waimarie, Hutt, Woburn, Ngaroma and Central clubq, for the use of their lawns. The following is the list of trophies presented :—Open championship singles (Wellington Croquet Association Challenge Cup) : Winner, Mr. E. Veitch ; run-ner-up, Mrs. Gilbert. (Westport). Level singles (Mrs. Arcuss’ trophy) : Winner, Mrs. Cadwallader; runner-up (Jane Cook Vase), Miss Bates. Handicap singles, No. 1 section (McDowell Memorial Rose Bowl): Winner, Mr. E. Veitch; runner-up. Mrs. Jarvie. Championship doubles (Keith Izard Commemoration Cup): Mesdames and Nottle (Westport) ; runners-up (Keith Izard In Memoriam Bowl), Mesdames Henderson and Hogan. Handicap doubles (Pollock Memorial Medal) : Winners, Mr. Veitch and Mrs. Sivyers; runners-up, Mesdames Anstis and Colquhoun. Handicap singles, No. 2 section (Wilkinson Plate) : Winner, Mrs. Jackson; runner-up, Mrs. H. E. Harper. The results of .Saturday’s play are as follow: — Club Pairs. Mesdames Fairlie and Martin defeated Mesdames Bock and Passmore, 26-16; Mesdames Lowery and Ross defeated Mesdames Robinson and Heenan, 26-21. Handicap Singles. Final: Mr. E. Veitch (14) defeated Mrs. Jarvie (1), 26-12. Cluimpionship Doubles. Final: Mesdames Gilbert and Nottle defeated Mesdames Henderson and Hogan, 26-16. Champion of Cliampion. A grade: Mrs. Manton defeated Mrs. Cleland, 26-20, 16-26, 26-14. Intermediate: Mrs. Edney defeated Mrs. Cadwallader, 26-20. These players have each one life, and now have to play off the best two of three games Post Entry. First round: Mesdames b aulkner and Adams defeated Mesdames Small and Higgins, 26-9; Mesdames Hills and Mll- - defeated Mesdames Scott and Wilson, 26-13. Second round: Mesdames Page and Woodley defeated Mesdames Andrews and Fisher, 26-20.
