MERCANTILE LEAGUE CRICKET

Interesting Stage In A Grade ROSENEATH SUFFER DEFEAT Considering the fact that no water was used in the preparation of pitches, the wickets were comparatively good for Saturday’s series of games in the Wellington Mercantile Cdcket League competitions. In a few cases tke fast bowlers were able to derive undoubted advantages from fiery pitches. In the A grade, State Fire and Customs maintained their positions as leading teams, while the defeats of Roseneath and Smith and Smiths served to level up competition between the next five teams in the grade. In .the lower grades two outstanding wins were.those of Celtic, who dismissed Bonds, D grade leaders, for 19 runs, and Insurance Officers, who defeated Empire Box, leaders in the E grade. Four series of games remain to complete all the championship competitions, with the possibility of a play-off in one or two grades. The positions of the various teams in the A grade are as follow: — Wins. Games. Ch.
