FIGHTING AT VIENNA
Police and Communists DEMONSTRATORS FIRE (Received February 'l3, 7 p.m.) ’i London, February 131 The “Daily. Mail’s” Vienna correspondent says that serious fighting ■occurred in the central square at Ottaskring, a Viennese suburb. Two-hundred Communists attempted to hold a meeting, and a standardbearV began, an address when policemen made an effort to seize the flag, upon which the speaker shot two with a revolver. Reinforcements arrived and the Communists opened fire with rifles, and the police replied, killing the ringleader and: wounding three demonstrators. Two more police were seriously injured. BATTLE ON SKIS Police Arrest Socialists London, February 12. The “News-Chronicle's” Vienna correspondent tells of a battle on skis between police and Socialists. The latter attempted a demonstration on the eve of February 12, the anniversary of last year’s rising. The Socialists assembled in the snowcovered Wienerwald forest on the outskirts of Vienna, which the police surrounded, closing in on the demonstrators and arresting 120. Similar arrests, numbering 160, occurred at Leopoldsberg.
