Mr. T. W. Miller
' The death of Mr. Thomas William Miller, at. the age ,of 70, occurred at his residence on Monday afternoon, reports a “Dominion” Special 'Service message from Masterton. Mr. Miller, who was born in Dunedin, came to Masterton some 47 years ago and took up a position at Homewood, ( on the East Coast, where lie remained’ for eight years. Later he went to Masterton, and became one of the proprietors of the Old Coach and Carry Company, after which he took over the club stables, which he conducted for 17 years. Mr. Miller was then keenly interested in the Mounted Rifles, in which he held the rank of lieutenant. Prior to the Great War he ran a wood and coal business, but on the outbreak of hostilities joined up with, the Veterinary Corps and left for the front. On his return to Masterton he joined the outside staff of the borough council, where lie had remained up to the time of his death. Mr. Miller is survived by a widow, and a family of five sons, Messrs. Arthur, Ernest, Clarence (Masterton), Alfred (Lyttelton) and Lionel (Hamilton), and four daughters, Mesdames F. Fairbrother (Otorohanga), P. S. Dixon (Masterton), L. Clarke (Wellington) and N. Davis (Auckland). There are also 36 grandchildren. Mr. Stephen Dealy A well-known resident of Wellington. Mr. Stephen Dealy. died at his residence, the Railway Hotel. Thorndon Quay, on Wednesday night. He was born in Bantry, County Cork, Ireland, in 1861, and at the age of 26 left for New Zealand, arriving in Wellington in 1887. With the exception of a break in 1901, when he visited Ireland, the late Mr. Dealy remained a resident of Wellington up to the time of bis death —47 years. A brother, Mr. James Dealy, of Tlwrnclon Quay, .is the only survivor of the family, Mrs. A. M. Gee A “Dominion” Special Service message from Masterton reports the death of Mrs. A. M. Gee, which occurred at the Masterton Public Hospital on Monday evening. Mrs. Gee, who was born in Dunedin, had resided in Mastei'ton for the past 16 years, and had only been ill for a few days when her death occurred. She is survived by her husband, one son, Mr. R. A. Gee. of Taumarunui, and one daughter, Miss Phyllis Gee, of Masterton. Rev. William Grant The death has occurred of the Rev. William Grant, at the age of 84, reports a Press Association message from Dunedin. He was a familiar figure at Port Chalmers. He was twice chairman of the New Zealand Congregational Union, and was a great Bible-in-scbools advocate. Late Mr. J. L. H. Ledger There was a large attendance at the funeral of the late Mr. J. L. 11. Ledger, formerly Controller of the Money Order Office and Post Office Savings Bank. Prior to the funeral a service was conducted by the Rev. D. M. Kerens at Mr. Ledger’s late residence at Tanera Crescent. Mr. Herons also conducted the service at the crematorium. The pall-bearers from the house were representatives of the P. and T. Department, Messrs. F. Wilton, J. Tobin, F. Dornan, L. F. Bruce, W. Thom, and C. J. Beveridge. At the cemetery the casket was conveyed by members of the Wellington Bowling Club. They were Messrs. A. E. Duncan, E. A. Liddle, A. Erskine, R. J. Thompson, A. Simpson, ami J. Redmond.
The late Mr. Ledger was one of Wellington’s oldest residents. He was born in Majoribanks Street at the rear of the present site of Hie De Luxe Theatre. A keen bowler, he was for 37 years a member of the Wellington Bowling Club and for two years was the president of the club. He was also a member of the Wellington Commercial Travellers’ Club for many years. His grandfather, on his mother’s side, k Mr. William Hickson, was a member of 1 the New Zealand Legislature in the early days of the colony. Mr. Ledger has left a widow and one daughter, Miss Evelyn Gordon Ledger, and three step-children, Mr. W. J. Kennedy, Lower Hutt; Miss Mary Elizabeth Kennedy, and Mr. John McMorland Kennedy, both of Brooklyn. A sister. Miss Margaret Constance Ledger, the remaining member. of his family in the direct line, lives in London, and also survives him.
