DRY CRICKET PITCHES
No Water Can Be Spared Although a thunderstorm , occurred over Wellington city's water catchment area on Saturday, no appreciable benefit resulted from the rain. While the general hosing prohibition lasts, no wickets for practice of club cricket games will be prepared on city reserves or recreation grounds, as the ■quantity of water necessary to bring a cricket pitch to the requisite condition is considerable. The hydro-electric branch of the Public Works Department does not anticipate ap adverse effect on power supplier through the dry season, and no • shortage in storage has been reported from any of the main hydro-electric works. SERIOUS FOR CRICKET Mayor to be Approached & * The decision of the City Council that no wickets for practice or club .games will be prepared on city reserves or recreation grounds during the prohibition of hosing, was regarded seriously by the management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association last night. It was decided to write the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League to join in a deputation to the Mayor to-day in order to place the position before him.
