RACING IN DOMINION
A Trainer’s Criticism (Received February 11,11.30 p.m.) Sydney, February 11. The New Zealand trainer, A. DWebster, who arrived by the Monowai, said that racing in New Zealand under present conditions was hopeless. The totalisatbr took 17J per cent, and owners were practically compelled to make themselves scarce when- they fancied their horses in the interests of a better dividend. Webster was of opinion that centralisation, reduction of taxation and the licensing of bookmakers in competition with the totalisator were essential if racing were to continue in the Dominion.
