FEARS OF FLOODS
* Thames Running High London, February 6. The Thames is higher than it has been since the floods of January, 1928. Water at the Victoria Embankment is four feet above normal high water. Somerset House vaults are flooded, and the underground railway from Westminster to Blackfriars was saved only by a special gang of pumpers called up for 100 miles along the Thames. Officials are anxiously watching the rising tides which are due with a northeast gale from Norway. Many basements of riverside houses are already flooded, and the police are preparing to warn affected areas if there is the least danger of the recurrence of the disasters of 1928 when whole families were surprised and drowned in their ■ beds.
