CONSTRUCTION WORKS

Replacing No. 5 Scheme Dominion Special Service. Auckland, February 7. Arrangements have practically been completed by the Auckland City Council for the raising of money for the unemployment construction works which are to replace the present No. 5 scheme works. At the poll held on January 23 ratepayers authorised the raising of a loan of £68,000 for improvements to roads and reserves, most of which have had a 'considerable sum spent on them as relief wages, and it is proposed to complete the work by employing a large number of men at standard rates of pay. The council has received an offer from a financial institution to underwrite the amount of loan at 3 5-8 per cent., and it is anticipated this offer will be accepted by the council at its meeting next Thursday.
