Location Difficulties
VILM-MAKING “on location” is not X without its troubles, even when the scene is as lovely as the Dolomites, or Venice. This has been impressed on Elisabeth Bergner and her husband, Dr. Paul Czinner, who have been filming the British and Dominions piettfrisation of “Escape Me Never” in Italy. In Venice the chief difficulty was to transport heavy equipment. A number of motor launches were hired, the sound track for recording*dialogue was placed on a barge, and the unit set off do&'n the Grand Canal. But the director’s troubles were not over. To show a young couple—Penelope Dudley Ward and Griffith Jones drifting romantically along in a gondola in a thoroughfare—actually as busy as Regent Street, London. was not easy, and the cables connecting the michophone on the gondola with the truck on'the barge had to be floated on inflated tires.
