THE IMPERIAL STAR

Due Here Noon To-day Delayed by heavy weather on the run down the coast, the new Blue Star motorship Imperial Star Is now due at Wellington at noon to-day from Auckland, and will berth at the Glasgow Wharf to continue her Homeward loading. A striking-looking vessel of 10,670 tons gross, the Imperial Star is on her maiden voyage to New Zealand. With her sister ships, the New Zealand Star and Australia Star, she was built for the Blue Star Line’s New Zealand trade by Harland and Wolff Ltd., Belfast. On her .trials, the Imperial Star averaged 18.6 knots, and on the voyage from Belfast to Auckland she averaged 16.2 knots. The second of the new motor-ships, the New Zealand Star, which is to leave London on March 20 for New Zealand, will be the first Blue Star Line vessel to brim; cargo to New Zealand, and is due at Lyttelton on April 22. The Australia Star, the third vessel, is due in New Zealand on May 16 in ballast from Belfast. In addition to these motor-ships, it is reported that orders have been placed for three more similar vessels, two to be constructed by Harland and Wolff and the third by Cammen, Laird and Co., Ltd-, Birkenhead, while according to the “Syren ami Shipping” there is a likelihood o£ orders for one or two more similar vessels being placed shortly by the Blue Star Line. COPTIC IN PORT. To continue, her Homeward loading, the Shaw, Savill motor-ship Coptic arrived at Wellington at 6 p.m. yesterday from Napier and berthed at the King’s Wharf. Sinaia to leave here again next Tuesday for Wanganui and Port Chalmers to complete, and is scheduled to clear the southern port finally on February 21 for Southampton, London and Hull, ria the Panama Canal. RANGITATA AT BALBOA. The New- Zealand Shipping Company has received cabled advice that its motor-liner Rangitata, which left Auckland on January 18 for London via the Panama Canal and Kingston, reached Balboa on Wednesday. THE MARIPOSA. The Matson liner Mariposa left San Franeiseo last Tuesday and Los Angeles on Wednesday for Honolulu. Pago Pago, Suva, Auckland. Sydney and Melbourne. She is due at Auckland on February 22. KANNA DELAYED. En route from Walpole Island with a cargo of guano, the Union Company's Kauna has reported by wireless that she has been delayed by heavy weather ami now expects to reach Lyttelton to-morrow. She will later complete discharge at Timaru and Dunedin. MAUNGANUI AT 'FRISCO. The Union Company’s R.M.S. Maunganui. from Sydney and Wellington, is due at San. Francisco this morning. She will leave there again next Wednesday for Papeete, Rarotonga, Wellington and Sydney, and is due here on March 4. THE PORT NAPIER. The C. and D, Line steamer Port Napier is now due at Wellington on Sunday morning from Waikokopu to continue herHomeward loading., She is to leave here again next Tuesday for- Lyttelton and Bluff to fill up, and is scheduled to clear Bluff finally on February 19 for London, vi» Capo Horn. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain E. R. Lowe, of the Poolta, and Captain A. 11. Howie, of the Karepo, have exchanged ships. Mr. N. J. Siepen has joined the Waikouaiti as chief officer, relieving Mr. M. R. Tregale.for holidays. MAIMOA'S MOVEMENTS. Tlie Shaw, Savill steamer Maimoa is now to leave Wellington at 7 a.m. on Sunday for I’icton and Lyttelton to complete her Homeward loading. She is to clear Lyttelton finally on February 18 for London, via the Panama Canal and-Kingston. WINGATUI RESUMING. The Union Company’s Wingatui, which has been laid up at Wellington, is to recommission to-day and leaves for Newcastle to load for Auckland and Wellington. THE ARAHURA. Tlie Nelson ferry steamer Arahura, which is to leave Wellington to-day for Nelson, will remain there until Sunday; leaving there at midnight that night for Wellington instead of at 7.30 p.m. to-morrow. GHANA’S TRANSHIPMENTS. The Union Company’s Umana, which arrived at Wellington yesterday from Australian ports and berthed at the Pipitea Wharf, brought transhipments ex Otranto, Ormiston, Karoola, Comorin, Manunda, Taiping, Mangola, Westralia and Nieuw Zeeland. MONOWAI FOR SYDNEY. The Union Company's liner Monowai is due baek at Wellington at 9 a.m. to-day from her cruise to Milford Sound, and will berth nt No. 1 south Queen’s Wharf. She is timed to leave here again at 3 p.m. today for Sydney and Melbourne. MAHENO’S PASSENGERS.
