BRITISH ATHLETES
Not to Appear at Oamaru An application from Oamaru for an appearance of the British athletic team while on its way from Dunedin to Christchurch, where it will compete on March 2, was refused at the meeting of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association on Tuesday. Experience in the past, the chairman, Mr. R. W. McVilly, said, had proved that runners could not be run off their legs. “While it is unfortunate that the meeting has to be turned down,” he said, “Oamaru has not appeared in the picture until now.”
A motion by Mr. O’Sullivan urging that Canterbury and Otago be written to and that the manager of the British team be approached, was lost on the easting vote of the chairman. In connection with the arrival of the British athletic touring team on Februare 11, it was decided to invite the Mayor. Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, to arrange a civic reception.
The following applications for reinstatement were received and approved : — E. T. M. Young, Christchurch ; J. Titber. Dunedin; H. C. Ladd-Hudson, Dargaville; J. B. Hargrave, Dargaville; C- R. Barnett, Whangarei.
