FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.
Fair to fine; local rains likely. Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for 24 hours ending 4 p.m. to-day: — Pressure is still high to the north and east, but the first of two shallow depressions is crossing the South Island. Forecast: Winds mainly moderate and variable; northerlies predominating at first, but backing to west and later south-west. Seas rough in the far south in New Zealand waters; elsewhere smooth to moderate. Moderate west to south-west winds and moderate seas in the eastern Tasman Sea. Weather still for the most part fair to line and warm, but some scattered local rains probable, with thunder in places, more especially in western districts. Rainfall at ‘‘The Dominion” Building for 24 hours ended at midnight last night: Nil. Rainfall for February: Nil. Shade temperature at “The Dominion Building during 24 hours ended at midnight last night: Maximum, 82 degrees; minimum, 68 degrees.
