Position of Country Players At the instance of the Manawatu Cricket Association, the Wellington association has decided to hold a conference with representatives of the nine minor associations under its wing in Wellington on Friday evening next, to discuss the vexed question of whether country players should have the same consideration in the selection of Plunket Shield teams as town players. Jlr. P. B. Broad, chairman of the management committee of the Wellington association, at last night’s meeting, said that the nine minor associations had been written to inviting them to send delegates to the conference.

Messrs E. B. Broad, W. A. Hammond and J. 11. Phillips were appointed to represent the association at the . conference. It was decided to invite Mr. T. C. Lowry to attend, and to hold over consideration of Mr. Lowry’s offer to bring a country eleven to the city to play a match against a town team. LAUCHLAN CUP MATCH Tramwaymen at Play The annual cricket match for the Lauchlan Cup. between teams representing the Christchurch and Wellington tramways, was commenced on the Kiibirnie Recreation Ground yesterday in ideal weather. The teams were very evenly matched, only four runs being in Wellington’s favour after each side had been to the wickets. The local eleven 'batted first, and totalled 168. Elliott, who hit a six and eleven fours, top-scored with 61, and J. Tilyard came next with 28. Alexander. Cook, Commons, Smith, and Dawson did the bowling for the visitors, and divided the wickets. Canterbury replied with 164, G. Brown playing a good fighting innings for 53. which included ten boundary strokes. Holmes and McKenzie also made useful contributions Elliott, Tilyard. and Lloyd bowled well for Wellington. Killiek and Sim opened Wellingtons second Innings, and when stumps were drawn at 6.30 they had 26 on the slate.
