OBITUARY

Mr. Walter H. H. Tripe The death occurred yesterday of Mr. Walter H. H. Tripe, of Bolton Street, eighth son of the late Dr. William Borrodaie Tripe, and formerly general manager for the Gear Meat Preserving and Freezing Company, Ltd. Mr. Tripe, who was well known in Wellington, was born in Picton on May 22, 1874, and had been a resident of Wellington ever since. He was educated at St. Paul’s, and afterward at the Terrace School and Wellington College. After leaving college he

joined the staff of the Gear Meat Company in July. 1891. Be was appointed secretary of the company in December, 1901, and on the retirement of Mr. W. 11. Millward became general manager jh December, 1919, a position be retained until he resigned iu January, 1931. Mr. Tripe was a great lover of sport. In his early days he was devoted to swimming: Later lie became a lifemember of Hie Wellington Rugby Union and of tlie Star Boating Club. He was also a member of the Wellington Racing Club, the Wellington Cricket Association, tlie Wellington and Wellesley Clubs, and the Aorangi Lodge of Freemasons. He was n man of generous impulses and refined tastes, and had a genial, lovable nature, which made him many friends wherever lie went. He is survived b.v six brothers ami one sister (Mrs. Bertram Mitford). A short funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Pro-Cathedral at 10.30 a.m. ou Wednesday. The funeral will be private. Mrs. A. Edgecombe The death occurred at Takapau <m Wednesday of Mrs. A. Edgecombe, a very old settler, who had resided for over 50 years iu Central Hawke’s Bay. states a special service message. Mrs Edgecombe, whose husband predeceased her many years ago. successfully farmed first at Wakaretu ami later in the Takapau district. She was a loyal supporter of tlie Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Ellen Lowe Mrs. Ellen Lowe, an old identity of Wellington, died at. her home, 3S May Street. Thermion, on January 14 after a sfiort illness. Mrs. Lowe was the widow of Ellis George Lowe who predeceased her in 1922 and was born in (Irani Road. Thorndon. She was in her 88th year ami was one of the oldest members of the Early Settlers' Association. Mrs. Lowe was the mother of 16 children and is survived b.v the following: Mr. J. L. Lowe, Wanganui; jliss L E. Lowe, Mrs. Andrew Williams. Messrs. Charles. Harry. Arthur Edgar. Albert Ellis. Norman Edward, anil Frank Lowe, all of Wellington. There are 24 grand-children and 14 great-grandchildren.
