Testimony as to the excellence of'the training obtained by the St. John Ambulance cadets is contained in a letter recently received by an assistant commissioner of the brigade in New Zealand. Some time ago a lady and her little girl, who were visiting the city, went to spend a day at one of the b u aches. The little girl, while running about on the sand, trod on a broken bottle, and received a severe cut across the sole oL the foot, causing excessive bleeding. The mother was quite in ignorance of what to do, and as there were only children on the beach she became almost distracted. Just then a little school girl appeared on the scene, perceived the situation, and took charge, saying to the mother. "Don’t worry; I’ll fix it.” She laid the injured child down, raised the leg, applied the necessary pressure, and the bleeding stopped. She then put a handkerchief over the wound and tied it firmly, advising the mother to take the child to a> doctor as soon as possible. The girl who rendered this timely assistance stated that she was a St. John nursing cadet. Tlie Waikato Hospital.. Board has decided, subject to the approval of the Department of Health, to enter into an agreement with the St. John Ambulance Association for the latter to take charge of the board's ambulance services in the Waikato district. Under the agreement St. John will maintain two ambulances in Hamilton, one in Rotorua and one in Te Aroha. and will receive suitable suoeidy therefor.
