Car Goes Over Bank 'Dominion Special Service. Marton, January 17. Proceeding to Hunterville along a tortuos road yesterday, n car driven by Mr. J. L. Lambert, of Huuterville, swerved on a bend and made for the edge of the road and a gully below. Mr. Lambert, who had as a passenger his sister-in-law, Miss M. Howie, of Wanganui, realised that the steering gear had failed and in the nick of time both occupants of the vehicle jumped clear. It was a narrow escape from death or serious injury. Plunging over the edge, the car turned at least six somersaults before coming to rest, badly wrecked. Farm Labour Shortage. At present there is an acute shortage of labour on farms in the Marton district. The shortage is due to the rush of harvesting of cereal and hay crops. Many dairy farmers are unable to secure hands, while many crops ready for cutting and threshing are still standing until labour is available. Bulls Bowling Club. Three rinks from the Bulls Bowling Club went to the Feilding green yesterday. Bulls won one game, lost one and the other was drawn. Feilding won on aggregate by sixteen points.
