STAFF PICNIC

Electricity Department About 150 adults and 50 children were present at the picnic of the Wellington City Council electricity department held at Maidstone Park yesterday. The weather was perfect for the picnickers, who were able to find shelter away from the wind. The officials responsible for the arrangements were: treasurer, Mr. E. Drakej chairman, Mr. A. Oldham; secretary, Mr. L. Drew; head steward, Sir. E. I-loimes; clerks of course, Messrs. J. McCune, P. Bliek, T. Doohan, A. Muir. Prizes were presented by the assistant general manager, Mr. G. Lauchlan. Results of the sports are as follow : — Married women's race, 75yds.—Mrs. Oldham, 1; Mrs. R. Chapman. 2. Single women’s race, 100yds.—Miss Gill, 1; Miss Harrington, 2. 100yds. men, under 35. —R. Crook, 1; G. Colledge, 2. 100yds. men, over 35. —H. Taylor, 1; E Green, 2. < Relay.—Apprentices, 1; Workshops, Apprentices’ race. —;R. Ritson, 1; J. Houston. -• Wheelbarrow race.—Mr. aud Mrs. Drew. 1: Mr. and Mrs. Muir, 2. Three-legged race.—Mrs. Hairfield and Mr. Brown, 1; Mr. and Mrs. Muir, 2. Thread-the-needle race. —Mrs. Frape and Mr. Chapman, 1; Mrs. Barker and Mr. Goodchild, 2. Naildriving.—Mrs. McEwan, 1; Mrs. Minenkoff, 2. Guessing competition.—Mrs. Greenwood. There were also several races for children.
