A lion t 1009 are now assembled at Melbourne for the congress organised by tlie Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science, which is opening to-morrow and continuing for a week. This is one of the most interesting events of the Centenary programme, the society’s object being to make science popular. To this end many subjects of general interest are included in tlie agenda. All papers and lectures have been prepared by experts in their subject. For instance tlie opening. lecture on Wednesday night, “Unveiling Antarctica,” by Sir Douglas Mawson, is expected to tell a fascinating of tlie part played by Australia and New Zealand in Antarctic exploration. On Thursday night Dr. P. Marshall, New Zealand, will lecture on “Volcanoes of the Pacific.'’
