TO-DAY’S NATURE NOTE
The Thrush and the Snail The family all being away on Boxing Day I was surprised to hear :x tap. tap, tap. which sounded like a man doing a little carpentering in the front garden. Upon going to investigate, I saw a beautiful spotted thrush with a snail held in its beak, and this it was tapping on tlie concrete wall. It looked at me with two bright eyes, but kept on tapping, until tlie shell broke, when it made a meal of tlie poor crushed snail. During a long spell of dry weather when worms tire absent and snails hard to find, .some birds must have to limit very hard for their food.—M. Leitch (Mu(i»aluui).
