Apparently peace was brought to an unquiet conscience when its possessor, now in England, forwarded, in a letter posted at Liverpool on December 4, to the general manager of the Christchurch tramways, four English lid. stamps. A message on a piece of paper inside the envelope read:—“Conscience money. Fare, Square to Sumner a long time ago.” Although no record can be found of a species of spider having wings, most spiders can travel great distances through the air. They do this by spinning a long silken thread and launching it into the breeze so that it serves as a balloon or a parachute. Spiders and their ballooning silk threads have been found in the air hundreds of miles at sea.
