Ceylon Malaria Scourge
Colombo, January 9,
Malaria is still raging throughout Ceylon. Difficulty is being experienced in coping with the situation owing to the frequent relapses of children and old persons. There wore 79 deaths in Colombo Hospital in December, The appointment of a Scientific Commission to investigate tlie causes of tlie malaria outbreak and to devise means for a drive against the scourge are being considered by a board of Ministers and eminent authorities. A food shortage is threatened owing to cultivators in out-station areas being fever-stricken. The fields have been lying fallow for seven months, and the drought is continuing.
