ABYSSINIA’S REPLY
Somaliland Incident
VERSION OF OCCURRENCE
(Received December 20, 11.10 p.m.)
Geneva, December 20.
The Abyssinian Government’s reply to the Italian note regarding the Ualual incident declares that th documents of the international commission contradict the Italian telegram. Not only the Abyssinian but the English and Abyssinian commanders jointly protested against the provocative Italian attitude and demonstrations in Abyssinian territory. An Italian aeroplane flew over and threatened the commission while, the latter was protesting. The Italians signalled the attack after a reeonnaisance overnight, by orders by whistle, on which two aeroplanes dropping bombs and a third and a tank firing machine-guns arrived on the scene, while the Abyssinian machine-guns were still covered and not in battle position. The officers and soldiers, except the sntries, were within their tents. The second in command of the Abyssinian escort was wounded.
