Melbourne, November 30.
Prelates of many nations have assembled in Melbourne for tho opening of the Eucharistic Congress in St Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday, when his Eminence, Cardinal Macrory, Archbishop of Armagh, will celebrate Pontifical High' Mass in the presence of more titan 50 archbishops and bishops.
The service promises to be the most spectacular ever held in Melbourne. Arrangements are being made for a congregation of about 25,000 people.
The normal seating of the cathedral is 3000, but extra accommodation has been provided and 20,000 worshippers tificial High Mass in the presence of will be able to hear the service from cathedral grounds, where amplifiers have been installed. Many events in connection with the congress have been arranged for next week, including the central feature of the congress, the Eucharistic procession on Sunday about which there has been much controversy. It is expected that 40,000 will take part in the march.
The principal New Zealand arrivals were Bishops Liston, Auckland, and Brodie, Christchurch, Fathers J. A. Kennedy and J. Long, and Dr. L. T. Buxton. Among the New Zealand laymen was Mr. P. J. Amodeo, Christchurch.
