Elimination of Level
Crossings GRANT FROM ROAD FUND (British Official Wireless.) (Received November 30, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, November 29. Asked in Parliament whether, in view of this week’s railway accident at a level crossing at Wormley, in which an engine-driver and a fireman lost their lives, he would take measures io abolish level crossings, the Minister of Transport, Major L. Hore-Belisha, explained that the road across the railway at this place was not a public one, but a private farm track. In order to expedite the abolition of level crossings, however, he would make a grant to local authorities from the road fund of 75 per cent, of the cost of constructing road bridges across railways.
