“Scorching” Motor-cars

".Scorcliing” motor-ears and motorbicycles have become such, a danger on the Makara roads that the County Council wailed on the-Minister for Internal Affairs (Hou. D. Biidclo) yesterday asking that new provisions should be made to control the traffic. Mr. F. T. Moore, chairman of tlie council, said'that they had been agitating over the-matter for a long time, but things were now getting worse and worse. On Sunday he saw a car race the evening train from Petone to• Wellington, scattering other traffic on the road in all directions. It probably travelled at 30 miles' an hour. The Minister said lie had a Bill coming before the House to deal with the matter.
Australasia (Brookes and Wilding) beat America (McLqughlan iiml Long) in the doubles contest of the Davis Cup in Sydney and thus secures the international trophy for the third term, having won tbr.ee consecutively oiitof the five matches.
Tlie trans-Andine railway tunnel.’3j-80 yards in length, has been completed. Ihe 'Chilian and Argentine sections ot the railway have been joined.
